This program was a collaboration between an orthopedic surgeon from the Research Institute of the McGill University Hospital Center, Dr. Paul Martineau, and a researcher from the National Research Council of Canada, Louis-Philippe Lefebvre. Together, they developed a porous titanium foam screw for the scaphoid bone. The porous titanium foam allows for bone to grow through the screw during healing and provide better outcomes to patients. The effectiveness of the porous screw was validated in animal models in collaboration with AccelLabs, and a 510K approval was obtained from the FDA.
