Brian Underdown, PhD
With over 30 years of investment, academic leadership and operational experience in the biopharmaceutical sector, Brian has been a key player in the growth of over a dozen successful North American life sciences companies. Prior to joining Lumira Capital, Brian was assistant vice president, research at Pasteur Merieux Connaught (now Sanofi Pasteur) from 1994 to 1997, where he was responsible for the Canadian Universities Research program and several global vaccine development programs. During his academic career, Brian was associate dean, research at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine and at the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. He has published over 95 articles and reviews in immunology in numerous peer-reviewed journals and is the recipient of five issued patents. He obtained a PhD from McGill University in immunology (experimental Medicine) and a postdoctoral fellowship from Washington University in microbiology and immunology.
